Road Works
A40 Highnam to Over Roundabouts:
Scheduled for 25 weeks from
May 12th 2008.
The Plans
Initially, one lane to be closed on each carriageway. Until 29th June, two lanes are to remain open eastbound into Gloucester each day until 10am.
Once the contraflow system becomes operational on a single carriageway, after 30th June,, ALL RIGHT TURNS along the road, including the junction with the B4215, will be closed for safety reasons. To turn right you will then have to drive on to the next roundabout and return along the opposite lane.
There are suggestions (in the Parish Council Minutes) that Two Mile Lane will be limited to one way only traffic for the duration of the roadworks, and that there will be NO ENTRY off the Ross Road.
There will be a speed restriction of 30mph through the roadworks, enforced by variable speed cameras.
Emergency vehicles will be allowed along the carriageway closed for roadworks, and so will not be held up in the queues.
What will happen if a car breaks down, or is involved in an accident in the roadworks is unclear. (What is clear though is that chaos will surely follow.)
There will be a weight limit of 7.5 tons on the Newent Road.
